Theron R. Strong
Theron Rudd Strong (born November 7, 1802 in Salisbury , Connecticut , † May 14, 1873 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1839 and 1841 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . Congressman William Strong was his cousin.
Career
Theron Rudd Strong attended community schools. He studied law at Litchfield Law School . After receiving his license to practice bar in 1821, he began practicing in Palmyra , Wayne County . He was a Masters and Examiner at the New York Court of Chancery for several years . He also held several local offices. He was a district attorney in Wayne County from 1835 to 1839.
Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1838 congressional elections for the 26th Congress , Strong was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 25th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Samuel Birdsall on March 4, 1839 . He retired from the after March 3, 1841 Congress of.
In 1842 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . He was an associate judge in the New York Supreme Court between 1851 and 1859 and a judge in the New York Court of Appeals in 1859. In 1860 he moved to Rochester , where he resumed his practice as a lawyer. Strong returned to New York City in 1867. He continued to work as a lawyer until his death on May 14, 1873. At that point the civil war had ended for about eight years. His body was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester.
