James T. Walsh

James T. Walsh (born June 19, 1947 in Syracuse , New York ) is an American politician . Between 1989 and 2009 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . Congressman William F. Walsh was his father.

Career

James T. Walsh was born in Onondaga County about two years after the end of World War II . He graduated from the Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse in 1966 . In 1970 he made his Bachelor of Arts at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany . He then served in the US Peace Corps between 1970 and 1972. Walsh was the managing director. He was a member of the Syracuse Common Council from 1977 to 1988 , where he served as President from 1985 to 1988. Politically, he belongs to the Republican Party .

In the 1988 congressional elections for the 101st Congress , Walsh was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 27th Congressional constituency of New York , where he succeeded George C. Wortley on January 4, 1989 . He was re-elected once. In 1992 he ran for the 103rd Congress in the 25th constituency of New York . After a successful election, he succeeded Sherwood Boehlert on January 4, 1993 . He was re-elected six times in a row.
