Christopher Columbus McGrath (born May 15, 1902 in New York City , † July 7, 1986 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1949 and 1953 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Christopher Columbus McGrath attended denominational schools. He graduated from Clason Military Academy in Bronx in 1921 and from Fordham University School of Law in New York City in 1924 . After receiving his license to practice bar in 1927, he began practicing in New York City. Between 1928 and 1935 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . In 1935 he was elected judge on the Municipal Court of New York City. In 1945 he was re-elected for a ten-year term, but resigned from his judge's post on December 31, 1948.

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1948 congressional elections for the 81st Congress , McGrath was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 26th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded David M. Potts on January 4, 1949 . He was re-elected once. Since he on a run again in 1952 renounced, he left the after January 3, 1953 Congress of.

He was elected to the Bronx County Guardianship and Probate Court Judge for a fourteen-year term in 1952 and re-elected in 1966. He was also a former faculty member at Fordham University School of Law. He lived in New York City until his death on July 7, 1986.
