George McClellan

George McClellan (born October 10, 1856 in Schodack , New York , † February 20, 1927 in Kinderhook , New York) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1915 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George McClellan was born in Rensselaer County about five years before the outbreak of the Civil War . He attended public schools and the local academies of Spencertown and Chatham . Graduated from Albany Law School in 1880 . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Chatham. McClellan served two terms as Police Justice and ten years as President of the Columbia County Agriculture Society . He serves as the postmaster in Chatham. Between 1907 and 1913 he was the guardianship and probate judge in Columbia County . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1912 congressional elections for the 63rd Congress , McClellan was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Charles A. Talcott on March 4, 1913 . He suffered in his renewed candidacy in 1914 a defeat and then retired from the after March 3, 1915 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he went back to his practice as a lawyer in Chatham. In 1920 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco . He moved to Kinderhook, where he died on February 20, 1927. His body was then buried in the cemetery of the same name in Nassau .
