John M. Holley

John Milton Holley (born November 10, 1802 in Salisbury , Connecticut , † March 8, 1848 in Jacksonville , Florida ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1847 and 1848 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Milton Holley graduated from Yale College in 1822 . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Black Rock , Cayuga County , in 1825 . He moved to Lyons in 1826 . There he continued his work as a lawyer. Between 1838 and 1841 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . He was a District Attorney in Wayne County between 1842 and 1845 . Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party .

In 1844 he ran unsuccessfully for the 29th Congress . In the congressional elections of 1846 for the 30th Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded John De Mott on March 4, 1847 . He died in Jacksonville before the end of his term on March 8, 1848. His body was buried in the Rural Cemetery in Lyons.
