Holumnica ( German Hollomnitz , Hungarian Hollólomnic ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 887 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Kežmarok , part of the Prešovský kraj and is counted as part of the traditional Spiš landscape .
geography
The community is located on the northwest slope of the Leutschauer Berge in the valley of the Holumnický creek , which flows into the Poprad below the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 593 m nm and is four kilometers from Podolínec and 17 kilometers from Kežmarok .
Neighboring municipalities are Podolínec in the north, Lomnička in the east, Jakubany and Ihľany in the south-east, Jurské in the south, Bušovce in the south-west, Podhorany in the west and Toporec in the north-west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1293 as Nova Lompnicha ; other historical names are Noglumnicha (1329), Magna Lomnitz (1361), Holemnicz (1773), Polomnitz (1786) and Holomnica (1808). The village was owned by the Berzeviczy , Újházy and Görgey families . In 1828 there were 119 houses and 866 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture, linen weaving and as carters.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Before the end of World War II, the majority of the German population was evacuated.

According to the 2011 census, there were 872 inhabitants in Holumnica, of which 622 were Slovaks, 165 were Roma and six were Germans. 79 residents gave no answer. 701 residents belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents to the Greek Catholic Church, three residents to the Evangelical Church, 61 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 12 residents to the Seventh-day Adventists, six residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church. Four residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 87 residents was not determined.
