Veľká Lomnica (until 1927 Slovak "Lomnica"; German Großlomnitz or Großlomnica , Hungarian Kakaslomnic - until 1902 Nagy-Lomnicz ) is a municipality in northeastern Slovakia with 4983 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Podtatranská kotlina basin at the foot of the High Tatras on the Poprad River , 6 km from Kežmarok and 9 km from Poprad .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1257 as Villa Lomnitza .
It has a stop on the Poprad – Plaveč railway line .
