The Poprad-Tatry – Plaveč line is a branch line in Slovakia , which was formerly known as the Poprad Valley Railway . It runs in the valley of the Poprad River and is listed in the timetable of the Slovakian railway company ZSSK together with the Studený Potok – Tatranská Lomnica connection under route number 185.

history

In 1889 the first section from Poprad to Kežmarok was opened. The line was extended to Spišská Belá in 1892 , and a year later to Podolínec . The Kaschau-Oderberger Bahn took over the management of the local railway .

During the Second World War, the gap between Podolinec and the main line from Košice to the north (Poland) began to be closed. The construction of this section was not completed until 1966.

Todays situation

The line is single-track and not electrified. Several local trains run from Poprad daily to both Stará Ľubovňa and Tatranská Lomnica. In some cases, travelers have the opportunity to change trains in Studený Potok between here and Tatranská Lomnica. There is also freight transport to a lesser extent.

A pair of trains runs between Stará Ľubovňa and Plaveč every Friday and Sunday.
