The Kysak – Muszyna railway is a single-track and electrified main line in Slovakia and a short stretch in Poland . It runs from Kysak via Prešov and Plaveč to Muszyna . It is part of the Pan-European Railway Corridor IX .

history

The line from Kysak to Prešov was opened by the Kaschau-Oderberger Railway on September 1, 1870.

The section from Prešov to the national border was built by the Eperjes-Tarnów Railway . The Prešov-Plaveč section was opened on May 1, 1873. The continuation to the Polish (then Galician ) town of Muszyna went into operation on August 18, 1876.

The section from Kysak to Prešov was electrified in 1978. In 1988 the section from Plaveč to Muszyna followed. The remaining gap between Prešov and Plaveč was closed in 1996/97.

Cross-border passenger traffic has ceased to exist since December 13, 2010. Today, passenger trains only run to Lipany every day, individual trains to Plaveč on Friday, Sunday and on public holidays.
