Červenica pri Sabinove (until 1960 Slovak "Červenica"; Hungarian Vörösalma ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 927 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The village is located in the upper Torysa Valley , between the mountains Bachureň south and Čergov north of the place. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 356 m nm and is six and a half kilometers from Sabinov .
Neighboring municipalities are Hanigovce in the north, Ľutina in the northeast, Pečovská Nová Ves in the east, Jakubova Voľa in the south, Rožkovany in the west and Milpoš in the northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1278 as Weresalma and was then a border guard village. Literally translated the name means "red apple tree", although in Slovak only the first part has been preserved, so today's name means something like "red village near Sabinov". In 1285 the then powerful Aba family became landowners, who in 1296 transferred the estate to the Berzeviczy family in an act of exchange. In 1427 there are 29 portals listed in a tax register. Later owners were among others the Tárczay family , then the Augustinians of Ve vonký Šariš and the Dessewffy , Péchy and finally Szirmay families in the 19th century. In 1787 the village had 40 houses and 361 inhabitants who were employed as carters, fruit growers and sellers of yarn.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Červenica pri Sabinove had 824 inhabitants, including 793 Slovaks , three Czechs and one Moravian . 27 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
737 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 46 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and four residents to the Evangelical Church AB; one resident professed a different denomination. Nine residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 27 residents was not determined.

- Roman Catholic St. Martin's Church, originally built in the late Romanesque style in the 13th century, redesigned in the Renaissance style around 1600, the interior was redesigned in Baroque style around 1733

The 1st order road 68 runs through Červenica pri Sabinove between Prešov and the border with Poland at Mníšek nad Popradom . The Červenica stop on the Kysak – Muszyna railway line is located south of the town center .
