Pečovská Nová Ves (German rarely women village , Hungarian Pécsújfalu - older also Péchújfalu ) is a place and a municipality in Okres Sabinov of Prešovský kraj in northeastern Slovakia , with 2566 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in the Upper Torysa valley at the foot of the Bachureň and Čergov mountain ranges . The Ľutinka brook flows from the north and flows into the Torysa in the village. The center of the village is located at an altitude of 345  m. Pečovská Nová Ves is four kilometers from Sabinov , 25 kilometers from Prešov and 46 kilometers from Stará Ľubovňa .

history

The place was first mentioned as Wyfolu in 1248, but according to some sources it was founded in the 11th century. It was the location of a customs post, probably due to its location on the road to Poland and belonged to Sharosh Castle , which was then owned by the king. In the 16th century it came into the possession of the Péchy family, who were loyal to the Habsburg castle ; since then the place bears the addition Pečovská / Péch.
