Renčišov (until 1927 Slovak and "Renčicov"; Hungarian Szinyefő - until 1907 Rencsissó ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia , with 167 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .

The municipality is located in the northwestern part of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range below the Bachureň Mountains on the Renčišovský stream , which flows into the Malá Svinka at the lower end of the village . The center of the village is at an altitude of 633  m nm and is 15 kilometers away from Sabinov .

Neighboring municipalities are Rožkovany in the north, Uzovské Pekľany in the east, Štefanovce (cadastral municipality Nové) in the southeast, Lipovce (parts of Lipovce and Lačnov) in the south, Nižný Slavkov in the west and Dubovica in the northwest.

Church in Renčišov

Renčišov was first mentioned in writing as Rezencei in 1389 and was then part of the Svinia domain . Other historical names are Rencseso or Zvingefev (1426), Synefew (1448), Resencho (1457), Renszissow (1773) and Rencschicschcó (1786). In 1427 20 porta were recorded in a tax register and belonged to the Semsey family , from the 16th century the Szinyey family . In 1600 there were 16 subject houses in the village, in 1715 it was abandoned. In 1787 the village had 34 houses and 256 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 45 houses and 344 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, linen weavers and sweet cherry growers.

Until 1918/1919 the place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Even in the first Czechoslovak Republic, the traditional main sources of income did not change. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities such as Sabinov, Prešov and Košice . In 1998 Renčišov was hit by floods.

According to the 2011 census, Renčišov had 176 inhabitants, including 164 Slovaks , five Russians , three Ukrainians and one from Rome . Three residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

118 inhabitants supported the Greek Catholic Church, 50 inhabitants joined the Roman Catholic Church and one inhabitant joined the Evangelical Church AB. One inhabitant had no denomination and six inhabitants had no denomination.

Not far from Renčišov is the Búče ski area with a few ski lifts and slopes. Paragliding and mountain biking are possible in summer .
