Poloma (until 1927 Slovak and "Polom"; Hungarian Polony ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 939 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The community is located on the northeast slope of the Leutschauer Berge on the left bank tributary of Torysa . The center of the village is at an altitude of 628 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Lipany , 24 kilometers from Sabinov and 26 kilometers from Stará Ľubovňa .
Neighboring municipalities are Krásna Lúka in the north, Šarišské Dravce in the northeast, Torysa in the east, Brezovica in the south and Tichý Potok (cadastral communities Tichý Potok and Blažov ) in the southwest and west.
history
Poloma was first mentioned in writing in 1330 as Palim or Polom , at that time as part of the dominion of Torysa. At the same time, the village had its own parish. In 1427 27 porta are mentioned in writing, so Poloma was a medium-sized village at that time. The 16th century was marked by a decline, in 1600 Poloma had 28 farmhouses after the arrival of new families. In 1691 the village received tax exemption after being devastated by German troops shortly before. In 1828 there were 69 houses and 529 inhabitants, whose main source of income was livestock.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Poloma had 951 residents, 937 of whom were Slovaks and one Magyar and one Czech . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 11 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
932 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, nine residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Evangelical Church AB. The denomination of nine residents was not determined.
