Brezovica was first mentioned in writing in 1317 and is one of the local landowners who had their country estates here. At the beginning of the 13th century, the Berzeviczy family built a castle above the village (mentioned in 1335 as a castrum in Berzevicze ), but it was demolished at the end of the 15th century and is hardly recognizable as such today. In the 14th century the place was a market town and remained so until the 19th century. In 1600 there were 51 town houses, a Protestant church, parish, school and grammar school. In 1828 there are 194 houses and 1,745 inhabitants. In 1925 half of the town burned down.

In addition to the local agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry, the residents work in factories in Lipany , Sabinov and Prešov .
