The steady population decline in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century is due to the mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of smaller farms. The community has experienced a renewed population surge since the 1970s because of its proximity to the greater Clermont-Ferrand area.
economy
The residents of Ennezat mostly work in the larger towns of Riom and Clermont-Ferrand. In addition, agriculture in the fertile Limagne region, as well as retail and handicrafts, play an important role in the municipality's economic life.
history
Because of the fertile soils of Limagne, the place was probably already settled in Celtic times. The Romans moved through this area to get to the Paris Basin . In the 10th century, Ennezat was a thriving city that was wooed by both the Counts of Auvergne and the Counts of Poitou . Since the 11th century there have been two cities in the immediate vicinity: Ennezat-le-Chastel (with an irregular street layout typical of the Middle Ages) and Ennezat-Villeneuve (with streets running at absolutely right angles); both cities formed a common parish, but were administered separately.
