Giat is a French municipality with 816 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Riom and the canton of Saint-Ours (until 2015: canton of Pontaumur ). The inhabitants are called Giatois .

Giat is located about 47 kilometers west-northwest of Clermont-Ferrand in the old cultural landscape of the Combrailles on the Sioulet . Giat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Celle in the north, Condat-en-Combrailles in the north-east, Saint-Étienne-des-Champs in the east and north-east, Voingt in the east, Verneugheol in the south, Saint-Merd-la-Breuille in the south-west, Flayat in the west and south-west, Fernoël in the west and Basville in the west and north-west.
