Marcillat is located about 22 kilometers north-northwest of Riom and about 38 kilometers north-northwest of Clermont-Ferrand . Marcillat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Gal-sur-Sioule in the north and north-west, Saint-Quintin-sur-Sioule in the north and north-east, Champs in the east and south-east, Saint-Hilaire-la-Croix in the south, and Saint-Pardoux in the West and southwest and Pouzol to the west and northwest.
