Pionsat is a French commune with 1,087 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Administratively it belongs to the arrondissement of Riom and is part of the canton of Saint-Éloy-les-Mines .
geography
The municipality is located in the Combraille countryside , around 25 kilometers south of Montluçon and 50 kilometers northwest of Clermont-Ferrand , on the border with the Allier department . Neighboring communities of Pionsat are:
- Virlet in the north,
- Le Quartier in the east,
- La Celette in the southeast,
- Saint-Maignier in the south,
- Saint-Hilaire to the west and
- Saint-Fargeol in the northwest.
The place itself is located on the right bank of the Boron River , which is also called Ruisseau de Pionsat in this section . It drains in a westerly direction and finally flows into the Cher as a right tributary . To the south of the village is the lake Étang de Durat , which is fed by the Ruisseau de la Farge and drains into the Boron.
Transport links
The community is located away from national traffic routes. The local public transport is performed by the department roads D227 (direction Riom ) and D988 (direction Aubusson ).
The place was previously accessible by a railway line that connected Montluçon to Clermont-Ferrand via Néris-les-Bains and Gouttières . Passenger transport ceased in 1939, freight transport in 1969.
history
The Pionsat treasure is an important find of ancient coins, which took place in the municipality in 1852. This is to Stater coins of gold, which the Celtic tribe of the Arverni in the 1st century. Under their king Vercingetorix can be assigned. The treasure, which originally comprised 200 to 300 coins, is scattered in many private collections; 21 copies are kept in the Cabinet des Médailles coin collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France .
