Aubusson is a French commune in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine in the department of Creuse . It is the seat of the sub-prefecture of the same name . The place is located at an average altitude of 512 m, has an area of 19.21 km² and is inhabited by 3366 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
Aubusson is world-famous for its tapestry factories. The origin of picture knitting goes back to the 15th century. At times, Aubusson was a supplier to the French royal court. The traditional patterns of the tapestries from Aubusson were modernized by Jean Lurçat around 1939 .

Aubusson is located in the south of the Creuse department on the Creuse and Beauze rivers . The municipality is associated with the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Nature Park .

Buildings
Aubusson owns some remarkable buildings from the Middle Ages and more recently. This includes the clock tower from 1579 as part of the city fortifications. Aubusson also has museums for the production of picture knitwear and the Jean Lurçat cultural center .
