Boussac ( Occitan Bočac ) is a French municipality with 1257 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It is located in the Creuse department , Arrondissement Aubusson , and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Boussac . The inhabitants are the Boussaquins .
geography
Boussac is located about 33 kilometers northeast of Guéret on the north bank of the Petite Creuse and is surrounded to the north by Boussac-Bourg and to the south by Saint-Silvain-Bas-le-Roc . The branch from the Montluçon - Saint-Sulpice-Laurière railway line and the station on this river have now been closed.

history
The name of the community is derived from the Latin Bociacum (House of Bocius). The de Brosse family ruled the area from the 12th century . The most famous representatives were Jean I. de Brosse (Marshal of France) and Jean II. De Brosse . The Château Boussac was built in the 15th century and was the residence of George Sand several times .
In 1800 the Brosse arrondissement was created (until 1926), which included the cantons of Boussac, Chambon , Châtelus and Jarnages .
