history
The Roman legions of Caesar were the first to use the thermal springs around 50 BC. After the springs were used extensively in antiquity, the thermal baths were destroyed by the migration of peoples . It was not until the 19th century that it was used again in a comparable way. In the Middle Ages, the Saint Pierre et Paul abbey church was built in Évaux . In 1831 a society of thermal baths was founded. Évaux was a few decades later with the railway Bourges - Miécaze connected, which is now closed to the railway network. As a result of these developments, thermal baths flourished in this era. In the 20th century the thermal baths were continuously modernized. In 2001 the important thermal station in Limousin was completely renovated.
The most famous son of the community is the librettist Edmond Rochefort (1790–1871).
