Lupersat is a municipality in France . It belongs to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , the Creuse department , the Aubusson arrondissement and the Aubusson canton . The residents call themselves Lupersatois or Lupersatoises . The neighboring municipalities are Champagnat in the northwest, Mainsat in the north, Bussière-Nouvelle and Sermur in the east, Mautes and La Villetelle in the south and Saint-Silvain-Bellegarde in the west.

history

The place name was derived from "Lubercus". It was a deity meant to protect herds from wolves . At the time of the Roman conquest under Julius Caesar , large parts of the region were forested and herds of wolves were probably there.

A Romanesque church was built in Lupersat . Its tower on the transept was struck by lightning in 1511, so that nearby houses also caught fire.
