Jean II. De Brosse

Jean II. De Brosse (* probably 1423; † between August 6, 1482 and August 28, 1483) was Count of Penthièvre de iure uxoris , Viscount de Bridiers and Seigneur de Sainte-Sévère , de Boussac et d ' Huriel . He was the son of Jean I de Brosse , Marshal of France , and Jeanne de Naillac.

He married Nicole de Châtillon-Blois dite de Bretagne (the marriage contract was dated June 18, 1437), the daughter of Charles de Châtillon-Blois, Baron d ' Avaugour , and his father's adopted daughter (Charles de Châtillon-Blois had died in 1434). In 1454 Nicole inherited the county of Penthièvre after all her father's brothers had died without leaving any sons , while her cousin Françoise got the vice-county of Limoges . On her behalf, Jean II. De Brosse renounced Nicole's claims to the Duchy of Brittany in 1479 , which came from her great-grandfather Charles de Blois-Châtillon , who had triggered the War of the Breton Succession (1341-1364). Despite this renunciation, the descendants of Jean and Nicole carried the name "de Brosse dit de Bretagne".
