Nicole (Penthièvre)
Nicole de Châtillon-Blois (also called Nicole d'Avaugour ) (* before 1434, † after December 19, 1479) was the daughter of Charles de Châtillon-Blois, Baron d' Avaugour , Seigneur de Reynal .
After the death of her father (1434), she was adopted by Jean I de Brosse , Marshal of France , who three years later married her to his son Jean II de Brosse ; the marriage contract dates from June 18, 1437.
In 1454 Nicole inherited the county of Penthièvre after all her father's brothers had died without leaving any sons , while her cousin Françoise got the vice-county of Limoges . On her behalf, Jean II. De Brosse renounced Nicole's claims to the Duchy of Brittany in 1479 , which came from her great-grandfather Charles de Blois-Châtillon , who had triggered the War of the Breton Succession (1341-1364). Despite this renunciation, the descendants of Jean and Nicole carried the name "de Brosse dit de Bretagne".
The children of Jean de Brosse and Nicole de Châtillon-Blois are:
- Jean III, † 1502, Comte de Penthièvre, Viscount de Bridiers; ∞ Louise de Montfort de Laval, † 1480, daughter of Guy XIV. De Laval ( House of Montfort-Laval )
