Kyōran Kazoku Nikki means something like "The diary of a crazy family" in German. The idea with the diary came from Midarezaki Kyōka, who wanted to learn more about his new family. In the books, the story alternates again and again with the diary entries of the family members, who reveal their feelings about the story. Each diary entry also differs in style, depending on which family member wrote it. In the anime, the differences in style are expressed through the different character songs.
