Makoto Koga

Makoto Koga ( Japanese 古 賀 誠 , Koga Makoto ; born August 5, 1940 in Setaka (today: Miyama ), Fukuoka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). From 2006 to 2012 he led the Koga faction (officially: Kōchikai ) in the LDP .

From 1980 Koga belonged to the five-mandate 3rd constituency of Fukuoka Prefecture, from 1996 for the single-mandate constituency 7 of the House of Commons and was a continuous member of the Kōchikai, which split into the later Tanigaki and Koga factions in November 2000 and reunited in 2008. From 1996 to 1997 Koga was Minister of Transport, in the LDP from 1998 to 2000 chairman of the parliamentary affairs committee, from 2000 to 2001 general secretary and from 2007 to 2009 chairman of the election campaign committee.

In the 2012 general election, he did not run for another mandate. His constituency was taken over by his former deputy secretary Satoshi Fujimaru for the LDP.
