Huriel is a French commune with 2,646 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Montluçon and the canton of Huriel .
geography
The municipality is located in the Bocage Bourbonnais countryside , around 12 kilometers northwest of Montluçon . Neighboring municipalities to Huriel are:
- La Chapelaude in the north,
- Domérat in the east,
- Quinssaines in the southeast
- Saint-Martinien in the south,
- Archignat in the west and
- Chambérat in the northwest.
The place itself is on the right bank of the Magieure River , a tributary of the Cher .
Transport links
Huriel has its own train station on the route from Montluçon to Saint-Sulpice-Laurière .
The department road 40 branches from the National Road 145 off through the village and leads to the northeast continue to Vallon-en-Sully . Départementsstraße 916 connects Huriel with Boussac .
The nearest airport, Aeroport Montluçon-Domérat, is located on the city limits of Montluçon.

economy
Huriel is a mainly agricultural community. In the 19th century, a large part of the income came from viticulture , but this ended abruptly with the invasion of phylloxera . Today only a few hectares are planted with vines , but the rare Gouget Noir grape variety can still be found here .
