Villefranche-d'Allier is located in the Bocage Bourbonnais landscape , around 20 kilometers east-northeast of Montluçon . The municipality is crossed by the Thernille river, which flows into the Œil here . Neighboring municipalities of Villefranche-d'Allier are Sauvagny in the north and northwest, Tortezais in the north and northeast, Murat in the east, Saint-Priest-en-Murat in the south and southeast, Bézenet in the south, Doyet in the southwest and Deneuille-les-Mines in the West.
