In the 19th century the number of inhabitants rose from around 400 to almost 1,000; in the first half of the 20th century, as a result of the mechanization of agriculture , it fell to the lows of the 1950s and 1960s.
economy
For centuries, the people of Malicorne lived as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture, which also included viticulture; in addition there were regional retail trade and handicrafts. During and after the phylloxera crisis in the late 19th century the wine was for decades a complete standstill, but now again red, rose and white wines are produced in excess of the appellation Val-de-Loire are marketed.
history
Other places in the area (e.g. Néris-les-Bains ) were already known to the Romans. For Malicorne only medieval data are available; but one suspects a Gallo-Roman origin, since the place was on a Roman road.

- The former priory church and today's parish church of Saint-Préjet is an elongated three-aisled building from the late 12th century without a transept , but with three apses , the middle of which is polygonally broken. Striking, but not unusual in the region, is the Romanesque archivolt portal with a multi-pass arch that protrudes slightly from the wall. There is an early Gothic double window with a pent-pass on top of a coffin cornice. The Vierungsturm, reconstructed in the 19th century based on the old model, with its bell-shaped storey with windows on all sides is noteworthy. The interior of the church is vaulted with ribs and contains the wooden figure of a Pietà from the 16th or 17th century. The church has been recognized as a monument historique in several stages since 1932 .
- A well below ground level ( Fontaine de la Bassié ) has recently been restored.
