Le Brethon is a French municipality with 325 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the department of Allier in Arrondissement Montlucon and in the canton Huriel (2015: Canton Hérisson ).

Le Brethon is located about 27 kilometers north-northeast of Montluçon . The river Sologne runs along the eastern municipal boundary . Le Brethon is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Meaulne-Vitray in the north and north-west, Saint-Bonnet-Tronçais in the north, Cérilly in the east and north-east, Le Vilhain in the east and south-east, Saint-Caprais in the south and south-east, Hérisson in the south, Vallon- en-Sully to the west and south-west and Meaulne to the west.
