The Sologne is a river in France that runs through the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Center-Val de Loire regions. It rises near the hamlet of Les Grands Morillons , in the north-western municipality of Le Vilhain , generally drains north-west through the Forêt Domaniale de Tronçais and after around 25 kilometers flows into the Marmande as a left tributary in the municipality of Charenton-du-Cher . On its way, the Sologne mainly crosses the Allier département and only reaches the Cher département just before its confluence .

Name of the river

The river changes its name several times in its course:

  • Ruisseau de la Garenne in the upper reaches,
  • Ruisseau de la Planche large in the middle part,
  • Sologne in the lower reaches.
