Audes is a French commune with 433 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the arrondissement of Montluçon in the Allier department . It is located in the canton of Huriel and is a member of the Val de Cher municipal association .

geography

Audes is on the left bank of the Cher , a tributary of the Loire . The former canal Canal de Berry is partly located in Audes. The municipality is located 19 kilometers north of Montluçon and 323 kilometers south of Paris .

Audes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Nassigny in the north, Reugny in the east, Vaux in the southeast, La Chapelaude in the southwest and Chazemais in the northwest.

The municipality of Audes was created in 1826 through the merger of the municipalities of D'Audes and Preuille . In 1787 the place was called "Haudes" (according to an inscription on the church by Claude Gabriel Douet de Vichy). Preuille is north of today's town. The church has been occupied since the time of the Merovingians . The village and the castle are located on a stream that flows northwest into the Cher. It can be assumed that there used to be a moth in Audes.

The population is known from censuses since 1793. The population up to 2006 is published on the website of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales .
