Vernusse is a French municipality with 153 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Montluçon and the canton of Commentry (until 2015 Montmarault ).

Vernusse is located about 28 kilometers east-southeast of Montluçon . Vernusse is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Blomard in the north, Target in the northeast, Chirat-l'Église in the east and southeast, Louroux-de-Bouble in the south, Lapeyrouse in the southwest and Beaune-d'Allier in the west and northwest.
