The canton is located in the northeast of the Creuse department.

history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, thirteen municipalities belonged to the canton of Boussac. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, four of the ten previous municipalities in the canton of Châtelus-Malvaleix were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the 13 municipalities of Bord-Saint-Georges , Boussac , Boussac-Bourg , Bussière-Saint-Georges , Lavaufranche , Leyrat , Malleret-Boussac , Nouzerines , Saint-Marien , Saint belonged to the canton of Boussac -Pierre-le-Bost , Saint-Silvain-Bas-le-Roc , Soumans and Toulx-Sainte-Croix . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​291.37 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 2308.

In the runoff election for the General Council of the Département Creuse on March 29, 2015, the team Franck Foulon / Catherine Graveron (Union de la droite) won against Sylvie Benoit / Gérard Thomazon (Union de la gauche) with a share of the vote of 53.32% (turnout: 63.87%).
