The Canton Ahun (Occitan Canton Aiun ) is a French canton in Creuse in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; its main place is Ahun .

The canton is located in the center of the Creuse department, northwest of Aubusson .

history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, eleven communities belonged to the canton of Ahun. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, three of the previous municipalities moved to other cantons. At the same time, ten of the eleven municipalities of the canton of Saint-Sulpice-les-Champs and nine of the ten municipalities from the Pontarion were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Ahun included the eleven municipalities of Ahun , Cressat , Lépinas , Maisonnis , Mazeirat , Moutier-d'Ahun , Peyrabout , Pionnat , Saint-Hilaire-la-Plaine , and Saint-Yrieix-les -Bois and Vigeville . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​194.76 km ² .

In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Catherine Defemme / Thierry Gaillard (UMP) won against Céline Fouchet / Jacquy Guillon ( PS ) and Jean-Marie Berthe / Diane De La Chapelle ( FN ) with 43.82% of the votes ( Voter turnout: 63.35%).
