Vidaillat is a municipality in the Massif Central in France . It belongs to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , the Creuse department , the Guéret arrondissement and the Ahun canton . The residents are called Vidaillats or Vidaillates .

The community has an area of ​​23.6 km² and is located at an altitude of 493 m. It borders in the north on Saint-Hilaire-le-Château , in the north-east on La Pouge , in the east on Chavanat , in the south-east on Le Monteil-au-Vicomte , in the south on Saint-Pierre-Bellevue , in the south-west on Saint-Pardoux- Morterolles and to the west with Soubrebost .

The main town extends along the department road D 36, which meets the D 34 at its western end. Significant rivers are the Taurion on the northeastern border of the municipality and the Ruisseau de Vidaillat, which flows into it, west of the main town, where a watermill can be found in the 18th century .

The Millevaches en Limousin Regional Nature Park is located near the municipality .

A bull from Pope Lucius III. from 1181 confirmed the monks of the Benedictine monastery Moutier-d'Ahun the ownership of the church Saint-Pierre in Vidaillat. Most of the parish belonged to the province of Marche , but six of its villages belonged to the province of Poitou . In 1689 it counted 19 other villages and hamlets in addition to the Bourg Vidaillat .

During the German occupation of France in World War II , the sparsely populated area became a center of resistance . The most important part of the Forces françaises de l'intérieur (FFI) of the Creuse department was located there. In June 1944, the Mission Bergamote resistance group moved into the nearby village of Le Puy, which belongs to the municipality of Vidaillat .

politics

The municipality is a member of the Communauté de communes Creuse Sud Ouest, founded in 2026 . Martine Laporte ( PS ) has been mayor of Vidaillat since 2001 .

In the presidential election of 2017 , Jean-Luc Mélenchon won the most votes in the first round with 27.68%, followed by Marine Le Pen (23.21%). In the next runoff election, Emmanuel Macron prevailed against Le Pen with 66.67% (52 of 78 votes).
