Saint-Sylvain church in Ahun

Ahun ( Occitan Aiun ) is a French municipality with 1432 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It is located in the Creuse department , Arrondissement Guéret , and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Ahun . The inhabitants are called Ahunois .

geography

Ahun is located about 16 kilometers southeast of Guéret in the Massif Central on the western bank of the Creuse . The municipality's train station is in the Bousseau-sur-Creuse district .

history

The village goes back to the Gallo-Roman settlement of Acitodunum . The Lemoviks settled here . During the Merovingian era, Silvanus von Ahun was martyred on October 16, 407, after whom the local church was named.
