- Next to the church is an old Prussian cannon from the 19th century . This was used by the Belgian army in 1870 and was confiscated by the German army in 1914 for the French offensive in the Ardennes . The cannon was abandoned in 1918 and recovered by reserve officer Pierre Despagnat, a friend of Gaston Doumergue , in 1924 and brought to Banize. In World War II , in 1944, was the cannon because it was feared that of fighter-bombers of the Allies is considered one anti-aircraft gun, hidden in a nearby forest. It remained there for three decades, until it was discovered during maneuvers by a regiment of the French armed forces in the 1970s and was to be taken to a weapons museum near Le Mans . The farmer Jean Chardel finally transported the cannon back to the village on his own initiative and the cannon is still in Banize today as a community monument. The cannon weighs 1421 kilos.
