The District of Saint-Vaury (Occitan Canton Sant Vauric ) is a French canton in the Arrondissement Guéret in the Creuse in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; its main town is Saint-Vaury .

history
The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, nine municipalities belonged to the canton of Saint-Vaury. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, two of the previous nine municipalities changed cantons. At the same time, four communities from the previous canton of Guéret-Nord were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Le Grand-Bourg included the nine municipalities of Anzême , Bussière-Dunoise , Gartempe , La Brionne , Montaigut-le-Blanc , Saint-Léger-le-Guérétois , and Saint-Silvain-Montaigut , Saint-Sulpice-le-Guérétois and Saint-Vaury . Its layout corresponded to an area of 210.64 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 2324.

In the runoff election for the General Council of the Creuse department on March 29, 2015, the team Philippe Bayol / Armelle Martin (PS) won against Céline Bouvier / Bernard De Froment (Union de la droite) with a share of the vote of 52.59% (turnout: 57, 34%).
