history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, thirteen municipalities belonged to the canton of Dun-le-Palestel. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, three municipalities from the canton of La Souterraine and one municipality from the canton of Bonnat were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the 13 municipalities Colondannes , Crozant , Dun-le-Palestel , Fresselines , La Celle-Dunoise , La Chapelle-Baloue , Lafat , Maison-Feyne , Naillat belonged to the canton of Dun-le-Palestel , Sagnat , Saint-Sébastien , Saint-Sulpice-le-Dunois and Villard . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​291.37 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 2308.
