The canton is located in the center of the Creuse department north of Aubusson .

history

The canton was created on March 22, 2015 with the reorganization of the cantons in France. The communes of the new canton come from the previous cantons of Chénérailles (10 communes), Jarnages (10 communes), Ahun (3 communes), Chambon-sur-Voueize (2 communes) and Guéret-Nord (1 commune).

In the election to the General Council of the Creuse department on March 22, 2015, the couple Marie-Christine Bunlon / Patrice Morançais (Union de la droite) won against three other pairs of candidates from the ranks of the FN, the PS and the Union de la gauche in the first place Ballot with a share of the vote of 52.19% (turnout: 58.68%).
