history

The canton was founded on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, seven municipalities belonged to the canton of Le Grand-Bourg. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, all ten municipalities of the previous canton of Bénévent-l'Abbaye were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Le Grand-Bourg included the seven municipalities of Chamborand , Fleurat , Le Grand-Bourg , Lizières , Saint-Étienne-de-Fursac , Saint-Pierre-de-Fursac and Saint-Priest -la-Plaine . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​197.99 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 2318.
