history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, nine municipalities belonged to the canton of Felletin. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, another ten municipalities from other cantons moved to the canton of Felletin. These come from the cantons of Gentioux-Pigerolles (7 communes) and Royère-de-Vassivière (3 communes).

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton Felletin included the nine municipalities of Croze , Felletin , Moutier-Rozeille , Poussanges , Sainte-Feyre-la-Montagne , Saint-Frion , Saint-Quentin-la-Chabanne , and Saint-Yrieix -la-Montagne and Vallière . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​206.56 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 2316.
