The OSE refugee children's home

In the Château de Chabannes in the Chabannes district there was a children's home run by the Jewish aid organization Œuvre de secours aux enfants (OSE) between November 1939 and January 1944 , in which 284 children found refuge. The home was run by the journalist and musician Félix Chevrier , who was later honored as Righteous Among the Nations . After the home was closed, the children were looked after by the secret network set up by Georges Garel , the aim of which was to provide children with false papers so that they could either hide them in France or smuggle them abroad. The Château de Chabannes was used by the French resistance after the children moved out.
