Buxières-sous-Montaigut is located in the Combraille landscape in the north of the Massif Central , about 30 kilometers southeast of Montluçon . The neighboring municipalities are Lapeyrouse in the north and northeast, Durmignat in the east, Saint-Éloy-les-Mines in the south, Montaigut in the southwest and La Celle in the west and northwest.
