Château-sur-Cher is located in the Combraille landscape in the north of the Massif Central , about 28 kilometers south of Montluçon am Cher . The adjacent municipalities are Chambonchard in the north and northwest, Saint-Marcel-en-Marcillat in the north and northeast, Saint-Hilaire in the east, Saint-Maurice-près-Pionsat in the south and southeast, Charron in the south and southwest, Fontanières in the west and South-west and Évaux-les-Bains in the west and north-west.
