Saint-Remy-de-Blot ( Occitan : identical) is a central French city and a municipality ( commune ) with 230 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the Puy-de-Dôme .

The place Saint-Rémy-de-Blot is at an altitude of about 530 meters above sea level. d. M. in the hilly and wooded landscape of the Combrailles and is located northwest of Clermont-Ferrand (about 51 kilometers drive) and of Riom (about 38 kilometers). The Sioule River forms the western border of the municipality.

In the 19th century the place had mostly between 900 and 1,250 inhabitants. As a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture , which resulted in the loss of many jobs, the number of inhabitants has since declined continuously to the lows of recent decades.

For centuries, the inhabitants of Saint-Rémy-de-Blot lived as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture, which also included viticulture; in addition there were small trade and handicrafts. - The imposing ruins of the Château-Rocher are located on a 150-meter-high cliff that dominates the Sioule valley ( 46 ° 5 ′ 21 ″ N , 2 ° 55 ′ 42 ″ E ). A simple fortress ( motte ) has been found on the site as early as the 9th century ; a new building was built in the 11th century.
