Saint-Étienne-des-Champs is located about 45 kilometers west-northwest of Clermont-Ferrand in the old cultural landscape of the Combrailles . In the northern municipality, the river Tyx runs and flows into the Sioulet . Saint-Étienne-des-Champs is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Condat-en-Combraille in the north, Combrailles in the northeast, Puy-Saint-Gulmier in the east and southeast, Sauvagnat in the south and southeast, Verneugheol in the south and southwest, Voingt in the west as well Giat to the west and northwest.
