The Düsterdieker Niederung nature reserve is one of the largest nature reserves in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The approximately 1130.9 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1983 , extends over the area of the municipalities of Mettingen and Westerkappeln , north of the core town of Westerkappeln.
The nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary " Düsterdieker Niederung "
