The Strönfeld nature reserve is located in the municipality of Metelen in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area, which consists of two sub-areas, extends west of the core town of Metelen on both sides of the district road  59. The state road  573 and the A 31 run to the west, the L 582 runs to the northeast and the B 70 to the south . To the west extends the 187.63 hectare nature reserve Fuchte Kallenbeck (BOR) .

For Metelen, a 248.81 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number ST-039 since 1982  . The area was placed under protection for the preservation, development and restoration of communities and habitats, especially of rare and z. Plant and animal species that are highly endangered, typical of the landscape, in a former heathland area with wet and dry heather and rare, sometimes endangered waders and meadow birds , amphibians and invertebrates, as well as plants and plant communities in open water and wet grassland .

The nature reserve is part of the European bird sanctuary " Feuchtwiesen im northern Münsterland ".
